One would think this would be an easy solution, but I can't find a
cure. I have a brand-new laptop, an HP Pavilion. I just tried my
first DVD movie and it didn't work. It crunched for a while, then
finally, after lots of mouse clicking, it told me that my region was
wrong and to pick a region--and that I had only five changes before
Vista self-destructed. WTF?
I picked US (region 1) and the DVD played, but all in white. Like the
contrast was set all the way to the sky, you could only barely make
out shapes, it was white, white white.
No help from HP, or Google. I'm betting it's a Vista issue (what
isn't? Vista sucks). I've installed (and since uninstalled) Quicktime
and Divx codecs. I suspect it's a codec error, but who knows?
Does anyone know about "white screen" DVD issues? The laptop is very
nice.
