It might.

It takes at least a year to really get past a loss like that.  And the
fact
is, it is appropriate to be very sad for a fairly long time in such
cir***stances.  But if your mom is not coping with basic life stuff, like
eating and dressing, you may have a real emergency on your hands.  Also
depending on your mom's generation and normal-times abilities, you might
need to check up on whether she is missing some basic practical skills
(like
balancing the checkbook, how to cope with a leaky faucet, etc.)
