I think I am lucky, in that I have friends whom I haven't seen for
years, but we are able to re-establish intimacy fairly quickly. But I
have found that I haven't got so much to write, and therefore reason
to "keep up" since it mostly seems to be, as you said, "same job, same
pets, same house" and so on. When I was in my twenties and moving
around like mad and breaking up and making up, I wrote volumes, in
real letters.
Plant potatoes, there's some tragic fodder for conversation for you.
