Of course nothing stops an ICE from "burning just about anything"
too if you add an external gasifier to the mix. I only wonder about
steam engines in auto accidents. First you have the mechanism that
makes the steam, admittedly similar in threat to the above
gasifier, but you've also got high pressure steam.
