You need access to a truck, van or maybe SUV to get it, though.  The
freezer I have here was $150 for a really nice upright.  Not
frost-free, but in Calgary air, it hasn't developed significant frost
in two years of use.  There's a sighing sound just after I close the
door, so it may be doing some kind of defrost activity, but the main
cooling is by tubing IN the shelves.  No airflow except just after
closing the door.

I drove a Metro at that time and drive a car with much LESS trunk than
the Metro now.  I got my younger brother to help me fetch it with his
van.

Poor people might not know anyone with a van.  In Toronto, we bought
our upright from an overstock/recondition place for something like
$600 and paid another $75 for the delivery.
