I believe that the Fiat is designed to *combust* the methane, extracting
energy from a chemical reaction between methane and oxygen.  Aftwards,
there would be only trace amounts of methane left, along with CO2 and
water va****.  In this sense it is no different from any other internal
combustion engine, except for the the claim that shorter, gaseous 
hydrocarbons burn cleaner and more completely.  Propane powered IC engines
are allowed to be used in indoor workplaces in the US whereas liquid
fueled ones are not, for this reason.
