I recollect Diogenes wandered around with a lantern looking for an honest
man and in the end someone stole his lantern.
Here's the sad case of an Italian artist who went hitch-hiking on her own,
dressed as a bride, to show how ordinary folks were trustworthy and
reliable. Predictably (am I cynical?) she has been found murdered:
