How often do your pets get sick?

I had the dog's diarrhea cleared up with a change of diet and a week on
metronidazole.  She was fine for about a month.  Then yesterday morning
she didn't eat her breakfast and the doggie daycare people said she
threw up and acted lethargic all day, so I brought her home and tried to
give her some ground beef, but she looked at it distractedly and
wandered off.  She had the dry heaves during the night and when I came
home I found diarrhea upstairs, which the SpotBot is working on right
now. 

Then I noticed that the cat (I think it's the tabby) had thrown up on
the sofa.  So I scrubbed that with washclothes. 

WTF?  How often do your pets get sick?  Is God trying to tell me that
I'm a bad mother?  Because typically God delegates that responsibility
to my mother and let me tell you, Lord, she is *on* it.  The cats get
special prescription diabetes food (because the tabby has diabetes
because she is on steroids because she has inflammatory bowel disease
which isn't the same as irritable bowel syndrome so don't even go
there.)  They get brushed regularly and I give them a dollop of
petroleum jelly every few days in hairball season to keep everything
moving right along.  The dog has been getting special All Natural
Organic No-Chicken-Added Ultra Expensive Food from the boutique doggy
store, because that's what the vet recommended. 

Maybe I just don't remember how sick the doxies and Scotties got when  I
was growing up.  I concede that my mom took care of it. She didn't work
outside the home, though, because she was a *good* mom.
