I doubt that the man thought it was admirable that he didn't read
fiction.  I know people who don't read fiction, but are avid readers
of biography, books about the history of things, and history in
general.  There is nothing sad about them; they just find true stories
more interesting than fiction.  These differences in people are what
make ballgames, and why some people watch "American Idol".
