Space Suit Question

A man in a space suit is the main feature of an advertisement for the 
American Chemistry Council that appears in the April 2008 edition of 
Scientific American (Vol. 298, No. 4, pg.11.)  I've tem****arily put a copy

of the ad at this URL for reference:

My question is about the mirror image labels next to the controls on the 
front of the suit.  Initially I thought that the lay-out person for the ad

had printed it backwards for esthetic reasons, because it looks better
with 
the bulk of the suit on the outside edge of the magazine.  Since the U.S. 
flag is not a mirror image, however, I guessed that the lay-out person had

also corrected the with some digital editing but left the rest of the
image 
as a mirror version of the real thing. 

Then I got to thinking that a person inside that suit couldn't see those 
controls by looking downward, so maybe they really are printed on the suit

as a mirror image because when the person in the suit wants to use the 
controls he would always be looking at them in a mirror.

Does anyone know the real scoop about this?
