There's a move away from Styrofoam <tm>, it seems. One of the larger
food-service providers is now using a polystyrene/paper materal for their
foam drink cups, which are said to be a bit more earth-friendly. There's
also corn-based foam drink cups coming to the market that are supposed to
be completely compostable (although there are other problems with
anything based on corn production).
Still out here in New England there's a move to incor****ate recycling in
movie production, which ordinarily generates enormous amounts of trash
(figure 150 people, 4 bottle of water a day, 6 days a week, that's a
mountain right there). When I last chatted up the person doing it she
claimed to have found a recycler for styrofoam -- I suspect that it was
being chipped and used as a volume expander in potting soil.
