Learn to work the saxophone

Music therapy has rekindled my dormant desire to learn to play an 
instrument.

When first I thought about learning to play, I was leaning towards the 
guitar. But after playing the autoharp yesterday and developing blisters 
after just one song, I don't think I want to play a string instrument.

Instead, I'm interested in the saxophone.

Are any of you sax players? How hard is it to learn to play one? How 
long does it take? How much do lessons cost?

I'm not thinking of public performing, I just want to learn enough not 
to embarrass myself when playing.
