Yeah, the subject of moral dessert is very interesting to me.  But the
author only briefly mentions the issue that I think is most bothersome,
which is the way advertisers use "you deserve $PRODUCT" to sell their
stuff. It must be really effective because advertisers use it all the
time. They often seem to use it when they're aiming at less-educated,
lower-income consumers.  The author's example about "start earning the
salary you deserve" fits in with that.  Advertisers selling
high-interest debt (on its own or for cars or other things) invoke the
"you deserve it" line.  Or Tom Shane will use it to sell low-end diamond
jewelry. "Doesn't your mom deserve the best on Mother's Day?"
