I am fond of movies from the 1930s. I have long had a vague
impression of Mae West, but hadn't actually seen much with her. So I
rented the first disk from the "Mae West: The Glamour Collection"
with "Night After Night" and "I'm No Angel". They were terrible. The
plots were hackneyed, even in the early 1930s, the acting was
uninspired (even the young Cary Grant), and the writing ranged from
tepid to annoying. West has this schtick of making some ***ual
innuendo, accompaned by this odd facial expression where she looks up
while fluttering her eyelashes. That got old fast.
So the question is if there are any good Mae West films I should look
for, or should I stick with my True Love, Claudette Colbert (c. 1935)?
