I saw a show on PBS about this guy who lit off into the woods in his
late 50's - way up in Northern BC on a lake with nothing around but
moose and bears. He built a cabin, planted a garden, had a small
canoe for fi****ng and exploring. Made all his own furniture using only
a few metal tools he packed in. Every spring and fall a local pilot
would fly in provisions and some clothes his wife had made. Other than
that he lived alone and quite happy until he was in his 80's. He filmed
the whole thing using a tripod and wind-up movie camera so his kids
could see what he was up to. Later on his son edited it into a TV show,
with the old guy narrating.
Sounds like you need to do something like that.
I'm about ready for it myself, frankly. There's a guy in Vermont who
raises orphaned bear cubs. I'm thinking of becoming his apprentice.
