The point is not if someone is still doing distinctly Buddy Holly-like 
songs or not, but whether or not he is influential. I'd say that his 
effects on the development of rock and pop may be more subtle than 
Berry's (who is obviously the more striking instrumentalist, and thus 
the most easily "visible" source of inspiration) and might be seen in a 
certain approach to melodic rock and to the ideas of self-management and 
and self-production, with an emphasis on recording and arranging as 
opposed to only performing and being recorded. Or some such thiog. And 
the notion of a band as opposed to Berry, who really didn't have a band 
as much as a series of sidemen - although his piano player and 
co-creator would later have something to complain about on that score.
