[an Open Letter to Bruce Campbell on Selling Out and MAKE LOVE tour]
Dear Mr. Bruce Campbell,
I was shocked and appalled to learn that you have finally "sold out".
You were, until today, my top candidate to replace Sammy Davis, Jr. as
the "hardest-working man in showbiz".
You've always been very generous with your fans, as long as they were
respectful of your privacy, which is more than a bargain on the part of
us fans.
But no more.
Having purchased a copy of your latest book (I rushed out to get a
first printing, as CHINS went into multiple printings so quickly), and
also having an 8x10 color still from AOD in hand (you said last time
that you will only sign "one piece of memoriabilia per person", in
additiona to books), I arrived at the Neptune Theatre more than two
hours in advance of your scheduled appearance. I remembered what a
mad-house University Bookstore became, for your CHINS appearance. (Note
to others: University bookstore again sponsored the event, which was in
conjunction with a screening of MAN WITH TEH SCREAMING BRAIN, thus, at
a theatre.)
This time, however, Univesity bookstore set up two separate lines: one
for those who had purchased their copy of MAKE LOVE at University
Bookstore itself (these people got to go in first), and a second line
for those who did NOT purchase their book at University bookstor.
This "extortion" by University Bookstore made me angry, but I joined
the "pleeb" line, anyway, my copy of elsewhere-bought MAKE LOVE and the
aforemntioned AOD photo.
Less than five minutes later, a University Bookstore employee came by
and told us that we could still "watch the show", but if we hand't
bought our copy of MAKE LOVE _at_ University Bookstore (and thus, had a
UniversityBookstore receipt with it), we would not get ANY AUTOgRAPH
WHATSOEVERR!!!
At this news of complete, and UTTER EXTORTION, I stormed off.
I will never _ever_ purchase anything from University Boookstore EVER
EVER AGAIN!!!
And I'm still debating whether I'll spend any further money on any of
your projects, sir.
Almost two hours after departing this debacle, I am still so angry I
can hardly type...
I'm sad to see yet another actor (and fairly gifted writer) I rrespect
"sell out" to "big money". (Correction: "ONCE respected".)
But I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Take the money and run, Bruce. Hope it keeps you warm at night...
