Actually, they weren't that bad. Sort of "hard core" Edgar Rice
Burroughs-Mars stuff. What got to me was the hypocricy. (sp)

In several cases, the hero gets enslaved. This is so horrible, that not
only does he have to escape, but he has to destroy the group that
enslaved him, yet in several cases he teaches a woman how to be a
proper slave and admires the scipt "S" branded into their legs.

In another story, he plays backgammon and wins his opponents (sp) male
slave. He promptly frees the man. Later in the story we discover a
tribe of women whom escaped female slaves try to reach, only to
discover that the women will recapture them and sell them back on the
market. Men help each other, women are untrustworthy. These subtexts
are repeated ad infinitum/ad nauseum throughout most of the series.

Mystery Science Theatre 3000 ran one of two Gor films that were made.
In this one, the hero hates slave traders and slavery and is working to
reinstate the proper king who will put an end to the slave trade! The
real books will come as a bit of a shock to anyone who gets interested
in "Gor" through this film!

I think I read about 8 or 9 of the books, after a while it was like
slowing down to gawk at a traffic accident.
