The longer this story goes, the most doubtful I am that most of it is
true. Is Britney really mentally ill? I'm beginning to think that
she is not ill at all. Here's a few thoughts on it.
1. The media has been trying to find a story to condemn her with for
years. This gives them that chance...regardless of the truth.
2. The parents had been trying to get control of her money and to
separate her from her manager for many years. This gives them that
chance...regardless of the truth.
3. She had the presence of mind, while in the clinic, to contact an
attorney to represent her...

This shows someone that was in cognitive control and someone that felt
she was unjustly committed by her parents...parents that not only
didn't let her go but fought her release...see next point. BTW, her
parents lawsuit made it impossible (pre-emptively) for her to get that
attorney to defend herself (thus, they assumed she would be suing them
about this).
4. She was released from the institution after only a week. This
would not be possible, if she was as bad as her parents claimed she
was to get control of her finances.
To me, this stinks of a parental attempt to get money from their
celebrity daughter (becoming more common in celebrity circles). I
think a police investigation needs to be done concerning the parents
involvement in all this.
