Gives a whole new meaning to "Flying the friendly skies" :-)
Hmmm ... what if a bio-terrorist engineered a common
bacteria, e-coli perhaps, to produce small amounts
of LSD, DMT or some related compound and then spread
the bug around ? Probably wouldn't be all that hard
to do nowdays. Spread quickly enough, it would be
too quick to keep up with - and the entire human
race would be more or less stoned stoned ALL of the
time. Nothing to do but be 'spiritual' because anything
intellectual would become too hard, and imbellished by
hallucinations. The odd unaffected person would SEEM
"insane" to the others ... especially once the altered
state had become 'normal'.
In an old H.G.Welles tale, after a world war something
called the 'wandering sickness' took hold of most people
and they aimlessly, mindlessly, not much better than
zombies. Modern biotech CAN make weapons like that.
