You can get oral rehydration salts easily. After a couple of days I went 
to buy some more and a chemist who didn't speak any English interpreted 
my mime correctly and handed me a strip of Norflox. I looked it up on 
Google, discovered the dose and that it was the perfect drug for my 
symptoms (wish I'd thought of it sooner!). The first pill worked like 
magic almost immediately, although I did complete 3 days as advised.

Interestingly, several chemists claimed that you don't need chloroquine 
because "there's no malaria in Kerala", which I think WHO wouldn't agree 
with. When I finally tracked some down, (branded stuff, no less!) it was 
7 rupees for 6 week supply. Which is about ... ooo... a thousandth? 
tenthousandth? of the price you pay in the UK for the same stuff.

You do ask good questions, I've had fun answering them tonight!
