If you'll recall back when we put the old "iron horse" together we
installed
a spark arrester, just to comply with SoCal regulations, so the ST was
not implicated
as a point of igniton.

My problem was not the fires, but the gale force winds.

Sorry to say I lost a large pine tree I had planted from a 1 gallon
container in 1986. <sniff>

This tree had grown to be 3' at the base and snapped off like a twig
at ground level in the wind.

The sound of the wind in the trees was so fearsome one night that the
Spooner family split and
went off to stay with my dad in El Cajon  where the wind was fairly
calm.

I should never say that our house is impervious to wild fires, esp
since my casa is completely wood-sided
and would go up like a matchstick given the right conditions and and
abundance of blowing embers.

The good news is the area around my home is largely cleared of brush
and I live right in back of the local
elementary school.  the benefit of the nearby school is that during
wild-fires many fire crews tend to hang out in the school yard as they
use the
facility as a sort of command post/aid station. I guess it would look
pretty bad if the FD let a house burn down right next to their
hangout.
