I've heard of that "super tasters" theory.  I think more likely it's
about cooks who know how to cook potentially bitter veg vs. those who
don't know how.

I've had brussels sprouts that were divine.  And others that were
satanic.  Same for broccoli, green beans, asparagus, (SimonP adds,
butter beans, mushy peas, carrots) ...
