Previous times I've had somebody pick me up from the air****t, but this
time I decided to get the train back (it's pretty easy from Heathrow).

I was a bit miffed when I arrived at the hotel at 1:15pm, having
specifically requested an early checking (approx 1pm), only to be told
I can't check in until 3pm.  I pointed out that my booking
specifically requested 1pm and was basically told "ah yes, but it's
only a request".

So I had to sit in the lobby for nearly two hours, desperately trying
to stay awake.

Once I got into the room I was asleep within half an hour (the
blackout curtains help) and didn't wake up until 1am.

Then I switched on the TV to find that that nasty business at Glasgow
Air****t had happened.  Unfortunately, Sky News didn't seem to want to
tell us about anything else.  It wasn't the MAIN story, it was the
ONLY story.  Except when they went to the S****ts Desk.

Liverpool Air****t closed?  Nothing.  Big pile-up between Folkestone
and Dover (very near where I live)?  Nothing.  Forthcoming Diana
concert later that day?  Nothing.  International news?  Diddly squat.

I was frustrated, to say the least.  Thankfully BBC1 eventually
started showing BBC News 24 so I could at least find out what else had
been going on.
