Yesbut - in the uk (in my day at least) you don't actually exchange
formal contracts at the initial agreement - anyone can come along and
better your offer until the last minute - "gazumping" - in my
experience in Canadia the contract is made up subject to whatever
conditions you might like to include (and get accepted) and these
conditions are signed off as met - e.g. survey, sale of current home.
This makes it hard for the sale to fall apart as all the conditions
are spelled out and agreed and it is very expensive to renege on a
contract to accept a better offer.
