So DVR's and Tivos save  in a video format?  Not digital?

This PC Larry just bought in August (?)  is an HP XP Media Center, AMD
Athlon 64x2 Dual Core, Processor 3800+ - 1024 MB, 250GB. We like it,
but then I saw an ad for the new Windows Vista, and I wished he had
waited til January to get one.
