Indeed. Usually alongside motorways or railways. And then using
some definition of "affordable" of which I'm utterly unaware.
Sometimes "affordable" means you only buy half of it so that, hey
presto!, your mortages payments are halved - but there's no mention
that the rental on the remaining half makes the total monthly
repayments exactly the same as for buying the house outright.

....and, in my area, even the very bottom end of the market is almost
five times that national average salary.

One of the reasons I want to buy my own house is to get away from
having to live with others and to be financially linked to others.
I'm considering possibility of buying a boat to live on - I can
buy one of those outright, and mooring costs are, relatively
speaking, peanuts.
