I would. They do that around here as well. Even including the good news
(see below), I couldn't afford to buy my house if I didn't own it
already, IYSWIM.

One of the reasons I've been less-than-prolific recently is I've also
been getting ahead.
Good news: my promotion came through - I'm now in the privileged
"company car" band, which as far as I can tell, mainly entitles me to
give *loads* more of my company's dosh to the government.

They are solving that around here ... by building "affordable" housing
on most grass verges. I would send you the Google Earth link, but it's
one of the bits that is still not in full focus. I can send a link for a
blurry blob.

Natch, just that at the moment you can't afford to buy a house unless
you have at least 2 salaries, and preferably at least one of them
professional. Average UK salary is around 24k or so (I think), average
house price is nearer 240k... 10x typical salary. Hence 1st time
housebuying age is now over 30 and most people buy jointly with either a
partner or a friend.
I was completely stunned last week, on hearing from a uni mate buying a
house in Bath, to find that Eastleigh (errr yes... quite... that
well-known ex-Victorian railway town between Winchester and Southampton)
is currently more expensive than Bath for houses. Eeeek! [1]
Oh and on a random topic, could I have a word with someone about Our
Weather please. As far as I can tell it has Rained every single day in
May so far, apart from a couple of Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Certainly
every Weekend. The water companies are - just gently - considering the
possibility of not enforcing a hosepipe ban ... this year... *yet*. It's
the wrong type of rain, apparently. <obsmiley>
-Sazz, and of course it rained on both bank holidays girl
[1] Is it me or is that an investment op****tunity...?
