I've been suffering a PC retrospective all this week. One of my old
PCs has come back to haunt me. A couple of years ago I gave it to
Rachel, who has recently given it to her brother, who has promptly
managed to break it, so I've been fixing it. It was dreadfully sick,
and after many hours of surgery I decided it was better to nuke
it - well, wipe the hard disc and start again. It was a scary reminder
of why I had abandoned Windows. Windows Installation hell, and the
merry-go-round that is the Windows Update system. And then there's
all the drivers to find and install. And then the applications.
And then setting things up so as to minimise the chances of its
return any time in the near future...
