NAMIBIA - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, two fifths of the most beautiful
family in the world, intend to star in a film version of Kaavya
Viswanathan's controversial first novel How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got
Wild and Got a Life.
DreamWorks, which had optioned Opal Mehta, pulled the plug on the film
in the early stages of development after learning that Ms. Viswanathan's
subconscious had inserted more than forty plagiarized passages into the
book.
When Ms. Jolie found out what DreamWorks had done, she offered to buy
the rights to Opal Mehta, which DreamWorks was planning to auction on
eBay.
"Clearly this is another case of the dominant culture in America
bringing the whip down on a person of color," said Ms. Jolie in a
conference call to reporters. "It makes me ashamed to be an American."
"Me, too," said Mr. Pitt.
Ms. Jolie said she had not been able to contact Ms. Viswanathan, who has
ignored repeated calls to her cell phone, numerous e-mails, and dozens
of chat-room-buddy messages.
"If I could talk to her," said Ms. Jolie, "I'd invite her to stay with
us in Namibia."
"Me, too," said Mr. Pitt.
"No one would be allowed to get near her, let alone bother her, in
Namibia," said Ms. Jolie. "My word is law here."
"Damn right," said Mr. Pitt.
In related news, several persons in Athens, Georgia, demanded their
money back after seeing United 93 "because there weren't no friggin'
snakes on the plane."
