"Presto, Change-o
These days top-notch actors are doing anything for a buck (well,
millions of bucks). They're morphing into fatter, skinner, buffer, even
homelier versions of themselves.
The recent metamorphoses are the most shocking. Sure, Renee Zellweger's
20 plus pound weight gain for the next installment of Bridget Jones
Diary, has made headlines, but let's not overlook these shockers:
Charlize Theron packed on 20 pounds to play serial killer Aileen Wuornos
in Monster (scheduled for 2004 release). The makeup design for the film
also required her eyebrows to be completely plucked. In preparation for
her recent flick, The Company, Neve Campbell trained for two years to
learn the film's complicated dance numbers. Brad Pitt's super-buff
physique on the set of Troy prompted some to say the star was taking
steroids. Not the case — just intense training. For Kill Bill, Uma
Thurman started training only three months after she gave birth to her
second child. To play the role of Captain Nathan Algren in The Last
Samurai, Tom Cruise endured months of strenuous physical training — and
put on 25 pounds.
Hey, I guess that's what the big bucks are for."
