Amen brother - got a customer whose data I had to recover from a crashed
HDD - got back all but about 100 of *thousands* of photographs. Advised
her to get a new computer because I couldn't guarantee the
mobo/processor/memory/video/whatever wouldn't die next week, and then
she's thowing good money after bad. So, she buys a new machine, I
transfer all files from the old machine, she's even bought blank DVDs to
do the backups.

Twelve months down the track, the HDD in the new machine fails (bad MBR)
- it's still under warranty, so I tell her to contact the retailer for a
replacement/repair.

"And you've got your backups, right?"

Sheepish look from customer.

"well, I bought the discs, but I never got around to it."
