There is so much to recommend it.

The visuals, certainly.

.... but for me, the dark, dreary post-holocaust dystopia serves as the 
perfect backdrop for characters with a bright view of the future.

Roy and the rest of his band clearly love life, want to live, want to 
keep living.  Just before he dies, he comes to realize that all life is 
precious -- and that is why his soul ascends.

Rachael falls in love, and certainly that is full of hope.

.... and Deckard is starting to see the hope around him.

Toss in the question of "what defines 'humanity'?" and you've got a
winner.
