IMHO, the theatrical ending (sacrificing himself for others) is better
than
the alternate ending (just quitting the house and his lifetime work??? He
surely never wanted that...) and surely not as open ended as the alternate
at that.
But then again... others didn't like the new ending of the Mist, so who am
I
to judge?
