I know it's not anime, but the most depressing ending of a single show
I ever saw was on Dr. Who when Adric died. It was the first time ever
I cried over a character's death. As for a series end, again, not an
anime, but Blake 7, where [ROT-13] rirelbar vzcbegnag qvrf [/ROT-13].
As for anime, Megazone 23, Part 1 had a rather depressing end. After
finding the Bahamut, and having a very awesome duel (especially for the
time), we see our hero [ROT-13] oybbqvrq, orngra, naq va arrq bs
zrqvpny nggragvba [/ROT-13]. I can't really think of an anime series
I've seen that had a depressing end.
