One of the best series endings ever :) Actually, it does have a hopeful
aspect as there's a chance to start over with a species consisting of
men and women on Earth.

No, not really. Rhea (which became Earth Chapter due to a split between
the production companies) starts with the situation horrible with
humans on the losing end of a war with robots but they gradually fight
back.

Grey: Digital Target comes to mind as one that leaves the characters in
a rather tough spot :)
