Here's some more information about robots in use in Japan, and their
growing employment outside of factories and amongst the general
population.
"Japanese robots enter daily life"
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/robotics/2008-03-01-robots_N.htm
Quote from the article:
"For Japan, the robotics revolution is an imperative. With more than a
fifth of the population 65 or older, the country is banking on robots to
replenish the workforce and care for the elderly."
This brings up another point- replacement for workers that aren't there is
necessary, but we keep hearing and seeing all sorts of information about
the youth unemployment rate in Japan, and the phenomenon of the NEET
person. Shouldn't a bit more effort be put into making sure that there's
full employment, before trying to robotize the entire nation?
