About two months back, suzuki gave an interview to alternative anime
magazine called Zen-Ex and he discussed his favorite films of all
time. It's an interesting list.
1. Once Upon a Time in America. In this Sergio Leone movie, one of the
characters changes his identity. Suzuki said he got the idea of Mason/
Largo from this movie.
2. All three versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Third version
was simply called Bodysnatchers. He said Boomers were supposed to be
like pod people. They are taking over humanity.
3. La Jetee and Sans Soleil by Chris Marker. Both are available in
same DVD package.
4. Lady from Shanghai. Suzuki said he borrowed noir elements mainly
from this movie.
5. To Live and Die in LA. Suzuki said Leon was based on the FBI agent
in the movie.
6. The Warriors. Suzuki said he took many urban visual cues from this
movie.
7. Killer Elite. Suzuki said he loves everything by Sam Peckinpah.
8. Persona. Suzuki said Sylia was based on the women in this movie.
