Vocaloid2 is a new synthesizer developed by Yamaha, and it can synthesize
singing, if a user inputs the melody and lyrics. With all the digital
processing that goes into modern pop/idol singing, I'm having trouble
telling it apart from a heavily processed real singer.
First up is the latest digital idol, Miku.
Miku's website:

Her stats hit all the moe-moe high points, which is to be expected, I
guess.
We're a couple steps away from full digital idols, it seems. Given all the
trouble we've been seeing lately with the real life ones, they may arrive
sooner than I had thought.
Something like this would be useful in games, too- it would cut down on
the
cost of voice acting.
