Hi
I would be very grateful if you would consider signing my petition to
have the wondrous joy to all Humanity that is Sian Phillips accorded the
long-overdue honour of "Dame of the British Empire":
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/dbe4sianphillips/
For those who do not know, Sian is a septuagenarian Welsh actress who
has been in oodles and oodles of stuff, some sublimely classy, some
woefully crappy. Just to mention a few, I would begin by saying she is
unquestionably most famous for her portrayal of Livia Drusilla in
theclassic BBC adaptation of Robert Graves' "I, Claudius". She has also
been Hedda Gabler and Emmeline Pankhurst, and she made baldness and
silver teeth look good as Gaius Helen Mohiam in David Lynch's "Dune".
She was Boadicea (Or Boudicca, if you prefer), Eleanor of Aquitaine, and
Alice's Red Queen (in rather fetching red latex) in an odd adaptation
called "Through the Looking Glass". She was also quite scrumptious as
Madame de Volanges in the pretty but mind-numbingly boring "Valmont".
